Nelly, Reiki and Energy Therapy

I began this work of practicing healing touch therapy soon after the birth of my daughter, 12 years ago. I have developed it over the years; however, the initial desire to work with my daughter's energy field came natural to me.

I had not received previous training and had no actual knowledge of the existence of healing touch therapies.

It's important for me to mention this fact about my work, because it helps to explain how I came to know Reiki as a healing touch therapy.

As I worked with my daughter, I was able to see and feel very strongly - energy frequency - or light - if you may, emit from my hands. There was something going on; and yet, I really couldn't explain it, or what it was doing. I did have the sense that I was helping my daughter and so I continued to do it.

After a while I told my mother and began doing work on my mom. I would have my mother sit and I would begin placing my hands over her head and back and abdomen, while I felt the energy frequency being emitted from my hands. Soon thereafter, I began telling my friends and working on them. As I practiced, the energy frequency became stronger and my sensitivity to the energy body became heightened.

There was a friend I worked on that said, Nelly what you are doing is called Reiki. And, from that moment on, my quest began. About four (4) years later, I became a Reiki Master and began calling this work, Reiki.

I opened The Healing Room and called it a Center for Reiki.

Today, after so many clients, cases and practice, I have to call my work Energy Therapy.

There are today, to my knowledge, three (3) forms of healing touch therapies that are well recognized and those are: Reiki, Healing Touch, and Therapeutic Touch.

Each of these offer different curriculums and forms of conducting a session. However, what they all have in common is energy.

With each of these therapies the practitioner is working with the client's energy field, with the intention of encouraging and enhancing the client's energy flow to effect balance or homeostasis as it is called in the field of medicine.

While each of these curriculums offer insight to energy, frequency, vibrations, - non of them begin to really grasp the vast variations of energetic situations the practitioner will experience.

It is a beginning point for you to grow from; however, it really all depends on the practitioner's experience and that comes from practice. When this occurs, the practitioner will be well aware that energy work is well beyond measurement. Some clients do very well with it, others inch along, while others remain idled.

This fact, in my opinion, is exactly what occurs in the medical field. A number of people receiving the same course of medical treatment will react somewhat different from the other. This is the reason why studies are inconclusive requiring more indepth research.

However, if common sense can be brought into the equation, it is reasonable to state that inconclusive is expected given the fact that humans are different thinkers.

Therefore, Reiki therapy is Energy therapy and Energy therapy goes beyond any healing touch curriculum because it has no limitations.

It is vast and inconclusive and difficult to measure given the fact that scientists have been unable to develop an energy measuring device that is sensitive enough to measure the impact Energy therapy has on a client.

I believe that it would be easier to measure a person's nervous system response to Energy therapy and conclude from there, than to measure the actual interaction of energy frequency in a session.

This to me is feasible. If the scientific medical field has developed instruments to measure the frequency of the heart and the frequency of the brain, it can certainly develop an instrument to measure a person's nervous response to energy therapy.

After all, it has been determined that the relaxation response to energy therapy is what triggers the body to heal itself.

I am, as you can see, a believer of the benefits of energy therapy. And, I believe everyone can benefit from receiving energy therapy.

All the best,

Nelly Thomas
